Railway Entrance Exam Details

Age Eligibility for RRB JE


Age Criteria Varies With Change In the Post or Job Type. For Example Candidate’s age Eligibility must be between 15 to 24 years for Basic Posts Under Group C and D. There is age relaxation for the reserved category which Goes up to 5 Years Of Relaxation. For Junior Engineer The Age limit is 21 to 33 Years. Educational Qualification and Eligibility Criteria

The candidate Must have passed SSC Exam or class 10 examination or its equivalent (under 10+2 Higher secondary examination system) with minimum 50 per cent marks from a recognised board and ITI in relevant trade (National Trade Certificate (NTC) in the notified trade issued by National Council for Vocational Training/State Council for Vocational Training).

Recruitment Basis for Different Posts

The staffs of Indian Railways are recruited under two Separate Sections:

Some Vacancies of Group B are done through direct promotion from Group C.

  • Gazetted (Group A and B)
  • Non-gazetted (Group C and D)

Group A

Group A or Grade A Officer positions are filled in by UPSC Exams. They are Considered to be one of the Top Posts in Railway Sector. UPSC Civil Services and Combined Engineering Services conducts the recruitment in Following posts of Indian Railway

Traffic Service (IRTS)

Indian Railways Accounts Service (IRAS)

Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE)

Group B

The posts of Group B are filled in by direct promotion from Group C. For some posts, the Exams are conducted by RRB.

Group C and D

The recruitment for Group C and D is done with the help of RRB under 21 Railway Recruitment Boards under the supervision of the Railway Recruitment Control Board. The posts Categories are divided into the technical frame and a non-technical frame.

Recruitment is done on All India Rank basis and the competition is not restricted to one particular zone and only the eligibility of the candidate is necessary for taking up the Exam under any zone. Since recruitment in done on a larger scale, it is done under 21 RRBs Currently Working In India as per Now.

Railway Recruitment Board conducts Group C Exams for recruitment of Different posts in Indian Railways Sector. The Opening/vacancy details are given zonal wise and recruitment is done on Zonal basis. Every post has a Two-Stage Computer based test.
